**About this page:** these are the sources behind our account of Jodhpur, from arriving and moving through the city to Rao Jodha’s political setting, the living city in 2026, and the official 2031 planning horizon. It is a selective guide, not a live transport service, exhaustive academic history, demographic forecast, or claim that every proposal has been delivered.

## How to read the source notes

- `Verified` means the linked source supports the statement as written on the date shown above.
- `Period source` means a historic publication shows how the subject was reported at that time; its judgments are not adopted as our own.
- `Scheduled` identifies a future event that had not happened when checked.
- `Plan forecast` identifies a value used by an approved planning document. It is not an observed count.
- `Proposed` identifies a land use, facility, corridor, or scheme named by a plan. It does not establish funding, construction, completion, or outcome.
- `Uncertain / omitted` identifies a familiar claim that this project intentionally does not state as fact.

## Sources for Jodhpur 2031

The Jodhpur 2031 material describes an approved planning horizon, not a guaranteed future. We read the full 235-page report from the Jodhpur Development Authority portal together with the authority’s Master Plan and zonal-plan pages on 9 August 2026.

| Document state / horizon | Site claim | Primary source | Boundary |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Approved 18 February 2021 / horizon 2031 | The Jodhpur Master Development Plan 2013–2031 exists as an approved regional planning framework. | [JDA — Master Plan 2031 portal](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/raj/udh/jda--jodhpur/en/master-plan/master-plan-2031.html), [official plan PDF](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/pdf/MPLAN.pdf), [Draft Zonal Development Plan — Nagar Nigam South, pp. 7–9](https://lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/Layout/1/nagar%20nigam%20south%20report.pdf) | Approval establishes the framework, not delivery of every proposal. |
| 2011 baseline / 2031 horizon | The report uses a Jodhpur Region baseline of 1,740,725 in 2011 and marks 3,100,000 for 2031 as estimated. | [JDA — Master Development Plan 2031 report, document pp. 81–83](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/pdf/MPLAN.pdf) | `3.1 million` applies to the wider planning region, not only Jodhpur city; it is a plan forecast, not a census result. |
| 2031 plan structure | The plan distinguishes U1, U2, U3/highway corridors, and rural land, while also identifying water bodies, hilly conservation, forest/plantation, reserves, and other land uses. | [JDA — Master Development Plan 2031 report, document pp. 87–89](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/pdf/MPLAN.pdf), [JDA — proposed land-use map](https://jda.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/development-authority/jda-jodhpur/pdf/master-plan-2031/LANDUSE%20PLAN%202031%20DRAFT.pdf) | The site’s rings are an original schematic. They do not reproduce the official map or its boundaries. |
| 2031 infrastructure standards | The report translates its forecast into stated requirements for water supply, sewerage, electricity, solid waste, education, and health facilities. | [JDA — Master Development Plan 2031 report, document pp. 83–86](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/pdf/MPLAN.pdf) | Requirements are planning standards, not evidence of existing 2026 capacity or completed 2031 provision. |
| 2031 special proposals | Knowledge and health-care city, corporate park, sports city, and freight city are listed as special schemes. | [JDA — Master Development Plan 2031 report, document p. 88](https://www.lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/pdf/MPLAN.pdf) | Proposed; no completion claim is made. |
| Current detail-planning state / checked 2026-08-09 | JDA publishes a mixture of zonal reports and material explicitly labelled draft. The Nagar Nigam South report says zonal plans detail and phase the Master Plan. | [JDA — Zonal Plan portal](https://lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/raj/udh/jda--jodhpur/en/master-plan/sector-plan-maps.html), [Draft Zonal Development Plan — Nagar Nigam South, pp. 22–24](https://lsg.urban.rajasthan.gov.in/content/dam/raj/udh/lsgs/lsg-jodhpur/Layout/1/nagar%20nigam%20south%20report.pdf) | The published documents do not show that every proposal has been delivered. |

## Claims intentionally not stated as facts

- Hermit curses, a live burial at the fort foundation, and a foundation blessing by Karni Mata are devotional or folkloric traditions with variable accounts.
- Solar descent and direct descent from Kannauj’s rulers are not presented as established genealogy.
- Mehrangarh was not “completed in 1459,” did not remain permanently unconquered, and is not a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- The Mughal–Marwar relationship is not reduced to a single oppression/resistance story.
- No sensationalised “blank sheet” accession story or exact August 1947 accession day is used without the original signed instrument.
- The Blue City label is a current public identity, but no single caste, cooling, termite, or other explanation for blue-painted houses is declared definitive.
- No “2026 population,” current second-largest-city ranking, tourism “unique visitors,” or superlative such as “world’s largest” is invented.
- No “2031 population” is stated as an observed future fact. The 3.1 million value remains labelled as the Master Development Plan’s regional forecast.
- No plan proposal—including knowledge and health-care city, corporate park, sports city, freight city, new corridors, or facility counts—is described as funded, built, completed, or guaranteed without a separate source showing delivery.
- Jodhpur is the city and former capital; Marwar is the wider region and historical polity.

## How the eras can be read together

The “Marwar Continuum” brings together statements already supported in the three tables above. Placing them beside one another does not turn a visual connection into historical proof.

| Recurring theme | Historical source | Present-day source | 2031 plan source | What the connection does not prove |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Land and defence | Mandore, the higher isolated rock, and Mehrangarh’s accumulated fortification. | Mehrangarh’s museum role and the Desert Rock Park’s restoration of degraded rocky land. | Hilly and rocky conservation areas, water bodies, forest/plantation land, reserves, rural land, and urban uses in the regional plan. | An unchanged land regime, successful conservation outcome, or exact spatial overlap. |
| Water and capacity | Reservoirs, lakes, stepwells, catchments, and channels as historic arid-city infrastructure. | Material and interpretive survival of water places; no claim that they supply the current city. | Water-supply and sewerage requirements derived from the plan forecast. | Current utility performance, funded works, construction, or delivered 2031 capacity. |
| Power and public institution | The 1818 treaty, 1947 accession, and 1949 integration as distinct political transitions. | Museum, High Court, IIT Jodhpur, and AIIMS Jodhpur as distinct current institutions. | Public-facility requirements and a proposed knowledge and health-care city. | Direct institutional descent, governance quality, proposal delivery, or public benefit. |
| Movement and making | Railway construction, the 1882 opening, and the 1886 workshop. | Wooden furniture as the state programme’s identified district product. | Highway-corridor land use and the proposed freight city. | A complete economic history, a causal rail-to-furniture thesis, or a completed logistics project. |
| Population and geography | Settlement expanding beyond the fortified nucleus. | The 2011 Jodhpur Urban Agglomeration count; no official 2026 substitute. | The 3.1 million estimate for the wider Jodhpur Region. | Comparability between differently bounded populations or a future census result. |

Reading across eras means that these records illuminate recurring civic questions. It does not mean that the system remained unchanged, that one era caused the next, that current institutions inherit former authority, or that the approved plan resolves the historical problem it names.

## Sources for food and drink

The dish pages distinguish public recognition from a universal recipe or a shop recommendation. Ingredients, temperature, cross-contact, price, availability and storage still belong to the maker and serving date.

## What the 3D relief represents

The “ridge → fort → water → city → living Jodhpur → 2031 planning horizon → continuum” chapter is an original explanatory diagram. It is not a GIS surface, archaeological model, fort plan, measured street map, official land-use map, transport network, or reconstruction of Jodhpur at any historical date.

- The elevated ridge, fortified nucleus, water infrastructure, urban accumulation, current institutional layer, and existence of a regional 2031 planning framework are relationships supported by the sources above.
- Terrain heights, wall forms, water shapes, camera positions, and building locations are part of a designed visual composition; they are not measurements.
- The final rings, corridors, and points are original shorthand for layered regional planning. Their shapes, spacing, direction, and locations do not encode official JDA geography.
- The final paths and nodes represent the five themes listed above. They do not represent roads, rail alignments, water pipes, administrative boundaries, institution locations, migrations, causal flows, or construction status.
- The abstract geometry makes no claim about exact scale, orientation, architecture, neighbourhood extent, or chronology.
- The model contains no generated representation of Rao Jodha, a battle, a historic inhabitant, or an undocumented event. Documentary history remains carried by the real licensed photographs and semantic text.
